But the fact of the matter is, that my "studio" looks like this:
See, so well organized. I've got my sewing machine in one spot, and everything else everywhere else. About my decorating choices, that boat on top of the 80s model TV, that's the Gorch Fock. Whatever that is. How could you not be inspired by looking athte Gorch Fock? I actually did the custom lighting by myself. I crawled under the Lifetime foldable table that Hubs really did set up and plugged in my old desk lamp from college. I don't think Hubs would be happy that I posted this picture.
This is the room that doubles as a "studio" and and office and in a few years will be a nursery because Hubs doesn't want to take down the guest bedroom to be a nursery. So I don't want to buy furniture or permanent shelving that I will have to move soon enough. It will also be a place where our middle schoolers from church meet in the fall, so something's gotta give. There is minimal space in here. The closet is even full of junk that has nothing to do with crafting. I've got to move some stuff around, reorganize a bit and hopefully make it work. Well, make it work better. It works right now, just in a mess. This is a project for this weekend. I had hoped that a trip to the DG (Dollar General) would fix it, but I'm starting to think more along the lines of Wally World. Hopefully I can do something so my studio doesn't get disassembled come September.
I hope I've provided a look into what the life of a small time handcrafted business woman really looks like sometimes. Maybe I've made some of you feel a little better about your messes. I know the pictures of the pretty shiny studios make me feel guilty about mine. I'll try to post some "after" pictures later with some helpful tips on a studio makeover for people on a budget with limited space.

I saw that first picture and thought that was your studio. I have to say, knowing you i was shocked. And then I saw the real studio and thought, that's the Evan I know! At least you have a craft room though. My setting machine is in the " office/ water heater/ dog food/ironing( no actual clothes were ironed in the production of this comment, or really ever in our house)/ everything else room. It is actually more like a large closet. Have you seen Amy king of the hill episodes where Peggy has here office next to the water heater? That's what we have. Philip was actually really excited when he saw the water heater. This ended up being a really looking comment. As soon as I get home, I'll post a picture of my Peggy hill office.
ReplyDeleteI know the Peggy Hill office! I worked on this some Sat, but you know how things have to get worse before they get better? That's where I am right now. I want it all organized so I don't have to put it completely away. You know how I am with putting things away.

I have one of those old 1940's Singer Machines. My Dad bought me over 40 years ago. I had it serviced last year. & it works great. Its always a work in progress to organize your craft room. I have a scrap room, but now getting back into sewing. Go Figure!
